A brief history

Betfair Romania Development has been part of an incredible journey through the evolution of the global gaming industry.

Founded in summer 2007 in Cluj-Napoca as a local business office within the Betfair Group, our first tech teams began powering the Betfair brand by 2013. We remained part of the Betfair Group until 2016, when the gaming industry witnessed a defining moment.

In early 2016, Betfair and Paddy Power united to form the Paddy Power Betfair Group (PPB). This integration brought strategic restructuring with specialized teams, comprehensive career growth opportunities, and cutting-edge projects. This positioned us as PPB's designated Centre of Excellence in Gaming, Data and Customer Technology.

The transformation continued in 2020 when PPB merged with The Stars Group to form Flutter Entertainment, creating the world's largest online sports betting and iGaming operator. Through these changes, our Cluj hub has grown exponentially in both numbers and mindset. Today, in 2026, we are a collective of over 2,000 professionals dedicated to innovating the tech landscape.
