THE ROLE

We’re looking for passionate & experienced technologists, strong communicators, and those with a commitment to continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will have the confidence to propose pragmatic solutions to complex problems and be eager to learn from and educate others. As a DevOps Manager working for us within our Platform Engineering domain, you will work amongst multidisciplinary teams, autonomously tackling complex challenges that provide the very best experiences and products as we build out an exciting and innovative customer experience within the fast paced and growing environment. You thrive on technological advancement of the team and always working towards its improvement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

We’re looking for passionate technologists, strong communicators and those with a commitment to continuous improvement to coach and develop a group of DevOps engineers. You are able to represent your team autonomously, require minimal guidance and are accountable for the team's structure, software, and technical deliverables. You partner with your engineers and leadership to define a vision and tenets that communicate how your team makes decisions. You provide the larger picture, the long-term perspective, and the context (past, current, future) behind business and technology choices. Your roadmap influences organisational goals. You effectively participate in FanDuel's planning process. You evangelise our company values.

As an DevOps manager you’ll be working closely with our engineers day-to-day to support and mentor them as they tackle tough technical challenges. You’ll help find opportunities focused on providing the best employee experience while balancing delivery of capabilities that work at scale. You’ll own your software, helping define solutions to problems while mitigating long-term risks. You’ll raise and help mitigate blockers while providing status updates to leadership.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Experience of managing team functions and objectives, developing deliverables and capacity planning.

  • Manage a team of DevOps Engineers working to deliver impactful technology solutions to a wide variety of stakeholders whilst protecting the team from burnout.

  • Pre-emptively identify technical risks and provide mitigation plans before delivery goals are jeopardised.

  • Own your infrastructure systems by helping to guide your team to deliver and support them while providing appropriate support for end-users, both internal and customer-facing.

  • Work with Senior DevOps engineers to deliver a technical vision with an eye for customer satisfaction and security.

  • Lead the team to align with and contribute to the growth of the organisation. Leverage existing FanDuel solutions where appropriate.

  • Provide technical guidance on code and architecture. Take the long-term growth for the team and the wider organisation into account when making architectural decisions.

  • Help DevOps Engineers grow by encouraging them to contribute to cross-team technical discussions and host cross-team knowledge sharing sessions. Provide technical guidance to support their ideas and empower them to make decisions.

  • Work with senior stakeholders to scope and define new solutions to problems while influencing the roadmap and ensuring we delivery truly viable features and products.

  • Seek diverse perspectives and making trade-off decisions that balances the value for customers with other business goals.

  • Contribute to the recruitment process by identifying the best candidates and providing a great candidate experience. Build a diverse and talented team.

  • Define Ways of Working and regularly seek feedback from the team to continuously improve the process as we grow.

  • Influence team culture and lead the team to positive outcomes even during difficult situations. Create an environment where we learn from our mistakes and share our learnings with each other.

  • Host team ceremonies such as stand-ups, retros, wash-ups and refinements to provide clear direction on work priorities.

  • Act as representative of the team when needed to provide succinct and tailored communications in an empathetic and respectful manner.

  • Coordinate quick and sensible remediation for production incidents and provide relevant stakeholders with concise and timely updates.

QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to manage performance, team coaching and promotion of personal development.

  • Technical experience in managing a highly available and highly scalable cloud environment, preferably AWS.

  • Ability to read code and evangelise best practices.

  • Ability to build cross-team working relationship, and liaison with partner teams to achieve business goals.

  • Experience in coaching engineers to improve code and platform quality.

  • People management, communication, presentation and facilitation skills.

  • Ensure technology solutions are testable, monitored, and maintainable.

  • Remain calm under pressure while effectively boosting team morale.

  • Knowledge of DevOps, Incident Management and SRE are preferred.
