Role Overview:

A security engineer is instrumental in a wide variety of solutions in the business, from building deployment pipelines of security services developing new security capabilities, and working with development teams to improve their security posture.

You’ll play a key role in ensuring that we keep the business and our customers safe.

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities:

  • Take ownership and make recommendations to management on the administration and configuration of Splunk as necessary to ensure the performance of the platform is maintained and at optimal performance.

  • Ensure that all logs ingested in the SIEM can be effectively used by end users, by parsing and formatting them in line with best practices.

  • Continually review existing processes and conduct gap analysis to see where opportunities to improve can be found in line with the overall Information Security strategy.

  • Monitor and enhance data storage practices where opportunities arise.

  • Monitor and maintain the SIEM’s search performance.

  • Ensure that all data is has been mapped to Splunk’s Common Information Model.

  • Monitor error logging and promptly troubleshoot such issues.

  • Advise the Security function on the new capabilities emerging within Splunk and how they can be effective to the business, i.e. the benefits of machine learning or risk-based alerting.

  • Implement a repeatable approach to alerting for SIEM health issues.

  • Create dashboards, reports and alerts to promptly raise ingestion issues.

  • Design automation opportunities for triaging and remediating health issues when they arise.

Skills, Capabilities & Experience Required:

  • Hands-on experience with a SIEM platform, preferably Splunk

  • Hands-on experience as a Systems Administrator, Security Engineer, DevOps Engineer or Site Reliability Engineer (SRE)

  • A keen interest and understanding of Cloud concepts and Cyber Security in the cloud

  • Experience troubleshooting complex problems and engaging with stakeholders to resolve them

  • Hands-on experience with the Linux command line

  • A cool head under pressure – we work together as a team, especially in the busier periods

  • A willingness to approach unfamiliar tasks
