Description

Core technical competencies:

  • Have good knowledge of secure coding and best practices;

  • Proactively identify insecure coding issues and plan remediation;

  • Make sure there is proper documentation for owned components;

  • Minimize manual processes through automation;

  • Suggest improvements to the methodology in use;

  • Be familiar with multiple software development methodologies and actively contribute to team and group meetings;

  • Be able to identify common concerns to encourage code reuse.

Software development, continuous improvement and QA for developers:

  • Work independently on tasks without assistance;

  • Think about multiple solutions when faced with a task; express pros and cons when choosing an approach;

  • Have strong skills in your relevant primary programming language – you'll also be able to interact with technologies outside your primary area;

  • Implement robust solutions that work under load and offer performance;

  • Analyze potential improvements on code;

  • Creatively reapply existing learnings to new areas;

  • Participate in code reviews;

  • Improve monitoring and alerting;

  • Assess the success of any changes made;

  • Practice a test-driven development work style.

Architecture for developers:

  • Demonstrate a good understanding of how the components you own live and interact with other components in the PPB ecosystem;

  • Model most problems, while considering the impact on load capacity, system reliability and availability;

  • Proactively make use of reusability techniques (e.g. design patterns, library extraction, new component creation).

Incident management:

  • Be able to debug user journeys on our applications, across various channels (desktop, mobile, native);

  • Attend PIRs that are here to help us learn from failure;

  • Contribute to the creation of tasks that stop repeat incidents;

  • Have tasks assigned to yourself and ensure they are completed;

  • React to major incidents in a timely manner;

  • Efficiently communicate with relevant people such as production operators, incident managers and stakeholders regarding any owned incident;

  • Take ownership of issues with minimal support or guidance;

  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of applications and the implications of making changes to them;

  • Support the Service Managers to resolve incidents within their SLAs;

  • Actively pursue root cause analysis;

  • Be able to explain the problem in a way that production operators, incident managers and stakeholders can understand.

Key working relationships:

  • This position involves working with and being part of a cross-skilled development team and will have regular contact with teams looking after other aspects of PPB products & tools.
